Iran’s annual exports of steel products increase

The exports of Iranian steel products ramped up in the year to March 20, according to figures released by the Iranian Ministry of Industry on Monday.

The statistics showed that exports of steel products from Iran reached a total of 7.777 million tons between March 2021 and March 2022, IRNA reported.

The figure indicates an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous same period.

During the period under review, the exports of billet, bloom and slab of the Khuzestan Steel Company amounted to 2.051 million tons, 37 percent more than the related figure for the year to March 20, 2021.

Moreover, the exports of steel products of the Mobarakeh Steel Company increased by one percent to hit 1.26 million tons.

According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA), Iranian steelmakers cast 5.3 million tons of crude steel in the first two months of 2022, marking an 11.8 percent increase compared to the corresponding figure for 2021.

China topped the list of crude steel producers in the first two months of the current year, with an output of 158 million tons, while Iran stood at the 10th place.

Iranian steelmakers churned out over 28.5 million tons of crude steel in 2021, according to statistics released by WSA in January.

The statistics show a 1.8 percent drop for Iran compared to the corresponding figure of 2020, which stood at 29 million tons.

According to the Islamic Republic’s Vision Plan, the country’s total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with the exports figure expected to reach 10-15 million tons.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world's steel producers, including over 150 steel producers with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.
