MPs: U.S. ‘futile’ sanctions on Iran drone activities part of psy-op to extract concessions

Iranian MPs condemned U.S. recently imposed sanctions targeting the Islamic Republic’s drone capabilities, saying Washington’s new coercive measures are solely aimed at producing psychological effects and extracting concessions from Tehran in the Vienna talks on the revival of a 2015 nuclear deal.

In remarks on the issue, Asghar Salimi said Iran is expanding its capabilities in the field of producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), IRNA reported.

He added the regional resistance forces are using Iran as a role model in defending their rights and have threatened the interests of the United States, Israel and their allies in the region through their developed drone capabilities.

The lawmaker stressed that despite U.S. sanctions, Iran has increased its drone capabilities, describing Washington’s implementation of further coercive measures against the Islamic Republic’s activities in this field as futile and merely aimed at creating psychological impacts.

He gave the assurance that the sanctions on the sector will fail to have any impact on the Vienna talks and Iran’s approach toward the diplomatic process.

Commenting on the sanctions, another Iranian lawmaker, Mohammad-Hassan Asafari, said they are aimed at spreading Iranophobia and obtaining concessions from the Islamic Republic in the nuclear negotiations in the Austrian capital.

He noted that thanks to the capabilities of its Armed Forces and drone sector, Iran is among the main regional powers.

Asafari added that the United States must know that Iran’s drone capabilities and activities in this field are nonnegotiable and unstoppable.

The MP said regional states are well aware that despite its military capabilities, Iran is not a threat to regional peace, security and stability.
