Eight Iranian artists will participate in the First International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry, slated to be held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, from May 21 to 25, said an official with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
Out of thirty Iranian artists who submitted the photos of their artworks to the secretariat of the festival, Vida Tavahodi, eight were selected to take part in the event.
Iran is among the few countries that have over five participants in the event, she said, adding that over 50 countries sent their artifacts, among which only two or three artworks can participate in the event, ILNA wrote.
She expressed hope that Iranian artisans would be among the winners.
The winners of the competition, to be held in 12 categories, will be selected by an international jury, she said.
According to the World Crafts Council-Asia Pacific Region (WCC-APR), an exhibition, a competition, some cultural and educational programs and a scientific conference will be held during the event, organized by the Union of Uzbek Artists to help develop traditional jewelry making.
In addition, 48 Iranian artworks will be sent to the secretariat of WCC-APR to receive the seal of excellence which recognizes handicrafts products that are culturally authentic and have been manufactured in a socially-responsible manner with respect to the environment.
