Iran, Qatar culture ministers hold talks at Tehran Int'l Book Fair

Iran Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili and Qatar Culture Minister Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani met at Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) on Thursday, as Qatar has been selected as the 33rd edition’s special guest.

Highlighting the two countries’ long-lasting cultural relations and commonalities, Esmaeili termed the Qatari emir’s recent visit to Iran as an indication of deep ties. Heading a high-ranking political and ‎economic delegation, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani paid a one-day visit to Iran on May 12 for discussions on bilateral, regional, and international issues, IRNA reported.

The 33rd edition of the international fair opened last Tuesday (May 10) in physical and online formats.

The exhibition is hosting 170 foreign and 1,700 domestic publishers. Publishers represented are from Turkey, Italy, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, Bosnia, the Netherlands, Spain, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Russia, Tunisia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, and Mexico.

Qatar, the host of World Cup 2022, was selected as the guest of honor at the 33rd TIBF.

The Arab country’s culture minister arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to explore grounds for strengthening cultural ties with Iran.

At the same time, Qatar’s board of ministers approved the cultural agreement between Iran and Qatar for the years 2022 and 2023.

Protection of intellectual property under each country’s domestic laws for the creators of the other country is one of the most important provisions in the agreement.
