The Iranian Armed Forces have reached a level of strength and preparedness that they are definitely capable of giving the most crushing response to the smallest threat against the country, said a senior army commander.

Making the remarks in a ceremonial address on Saturday, Deputy Chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari added the Armed Forces are indebted to the country’s martyrs, war veterans and those wounded in action for their present power and growth, Mehr News Agency reported.

He described the secrets to foiling enemies’ conspiracies as being faith, unity and adherence to the guidelines of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying the Iranian nation has so far thwarted each and every enemy conspiracy and is standing on the zenith of its strength.

Rear Admiral Sayyari listed as the 1979 Islamic Revolution’s achievements Iran’s shining and greater influence in international arenas, ensured national security, increased deterrence power and the Armed Forces’ preparedness.

He added that since 1999, the Iranian Navy has escorted close to 5,000 merchant vessels and oil tankers, protecting them against acts of piracy.

Rear Admiral Sayyari said over the past few days, pirates launched a number of attacks on some merchant ships, all of which were fended off by the Iranian Army’s naval forces.

He added the Armed Forces are capable of protecting the Islamic Establishment’s interests within a range of some 2,500 kilometers off the Iranian coastlines, demonstrating the country’s strength.

The army commander gave the assurance that “we will stand firm protecting our interests wherever a threat is posed to the Islamic Establishment”.

A few days ago, an Iranian Navy’s fleet of warships rescued the crew of an Omani launch that had been stranded at the northern tip of the Sea of Oman and off the strategic Makran coast due to a technical defect, according to Press TV.
