He urged the countrys security and judicial authorities to follow up on the IRGC members assassination with great seriousness.

The IRGC member Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei was assassinated in Tehran at around 4:00 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) on Sunday when two motorcyclists shot him five times while he was in his car.

IRIB state TV reported that three bullets hit him in the head and two bullets hit his hand. The two motorcyclists fled the scene, it added.

In a statement, the IRGC said the assassination was carried out by counterrevolutionary elements”.

It also said necessary measures have been taken to identify and arrest the assailant or assailants.

Condemnations continue

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh condemned the act of terror, emphasizing that the Islamic Republics sworn enemies once again revealed their evil nature” by assassinating a devoted soldier of the country.

He blamed those world powers claiming to be fighting terrorism for their silence, saying the anti-human crime was committed by terrorist elements linked with the global arrogance and hegemonic powers.

In another statement on Monday, Irans Defense Ministry denounced the terrorist attack, saying the Iranian nation demands a decisive action against its perpetrators.

Moreover, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif blamed thugs and the elements of the terrorist groups affiliated to the global arrogance and Zionism” for Colonel Khodaeis assassination, vowing severe punishment for them.

Sharif emphasized that Khodaeis assassination has further strengthened the IRGCs determination to safeguard national security and sovereignty and to decisively confront the enemies of the Islamic Republic, especially the terrorist U.S. administration plus the bogus, criminal, and the temporary Israeli regime.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the State Security Council said on Monday the IRGC members assassination was definitely carried out by Israel, stressing that those who perpetrated the crime must await a severe response from Iran.

Speaking to IRNA, Majid Mir-Ahmadi noted, This act was undeniably carried out by the Zionist regime. They (Israeli officials) must now be assured that harsh revenge awaits them.”

He added, The criminals who have committed the crime must be prepared for a stinging slap as our revenge will be such that they will regret their action.”

Likewise, in a Monday tweet, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Iranian Judiciary chief's deputy for international affairs and secretary of the country's High Council for Human Rights, said, Iran remains a major victim of terrorism. Whats truly unfortunate is that those claiming to be fighting this heinous phenomenon, either prefer to continue to keep deafening and stony silence about the assassinations or do support, directly or indirectly, the terrorists.”
