Iran welcomes agreement to renew nationwide truce in Yemen

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh says based on its strategic viewpoint and principled policies, the Islamic Republic has always stated that the solution to Yemen’s crisis is a political one.

Iran welcomes an agreement between the warring parties in Yemen to renew a nationwide truce for another two months at the proposal of UN special envoy for the Arab country, Hans Grundberg, said the Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Saeed Khatibzadeh added that the Islamic Republic expresses hope that in light of similar efforts, Yemens siege would be fully lifted, a lasting cease-fire secured and a political solution achieved, mfa.gov.ir wrote.

He stressed that based on its strategic viewpoint and principled policies, Iran has always stated that the solution to Yemens crisis is a political one and has used its entire capacity to ensure a just peace in the Arab stat based on the countrys realities.

The UN said on Thursday that Yemens warring parties have agreed to renew the nationwide truce for another two months.

The cease-fire between the Yemeni sides initially came into effect on April 2, becoming the first nationwide truce in the past six years of the conflict in the Arab Worlds most impoverished nation.

The announcement, which is the outcome of UN efforts, came only few hours before the original truce was set to expire later on Thursday.
