Iran’s late filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami was commemorated at the award-giving ceremony of International 5 Photo Award held at Tehran’s Cinema Museum of Iran.

Japanese Ambassador to Iran Kazutoshi Aikawa who was present at the ceremony said that Kiarostami enjoys special popularity in Japan, ILNA wrote.

He called Kiarostami one of the leading filmmakers in the world.

Aikawa said that in 2016, once the Iranian director died, Japan held several festivals on the achievements of Kiarostami.

Iran’s prominent painter Aydin Aghdashloo said that the world took on a new meaning with the presence of Kiarostami, adding that the filmmaker receives ever-increasing acclaim.

Ambassadors of Italy and Germany as well as Iranian artists including Lili Golestan, Javad Ezati, Pantea Panahiha, and Ali Shademan attended the ceremony.

The event is an international event for photography and video.

The number “5” is derived from the film ‘Five’ made by Kiarostami, which has been released in 2003 and contains five scenes with the average duration of 16 minutes.
