New chapter in Iran-Tajikistan energy cooperation

During the meeting of Iranian deputy minister of oil with a delegation from Tajikistan on Sunday, the development of economic cooperation between the two countries was discussed.

Following the resumption of Iran's energy diplomacy, Ahmad Asadzadeh, the deputy minister of oil for international affairs and trade, met with a Tajik delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Bakhtiyor Sharifi.

The delegation has traveled to Tehran to pursue and implement the provisions of agreements, including the exploration and exploitation of the country's oil and gas fields, and to provide techno-engineering services and educational cooperation.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the development of cooperation in various fields, especially new energy.

Emphasis on increasing trade


Meanwhile, in a meeting with of the head of the Trade Development Organization with Sharifi on the same day, the two sides stressed the need to boost bilateral trade.

TPO Head Alireza Peyman Pak who is also a deputy industry, mine and trade minister held a meeting with the Tajik delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the need to expand trade between Iran and Tajikistan considering many cultural similarities and excellent political relations.

In this meeting, Peyman Pak criticized the low amount of $130-million trade between the two countries and stressed the need to supply the items needed by the two countries by the other side.


He cited Tajikistan's supply of cotton to Iranian textile plants, quoting some examples in the field of extraterritorial cultivation.

Welcoming the development of trade relations with Iran, Sharifi also stressed the need for Tajikistan to use Iran's industrial technologies.

The two sides also reviewed ways to develop industrial fields including chemical products, petrochemicals, food and pharmaceuticals, ceramic tiles and home appliances.

It was also decided to consider the possibility of concluding a preferential trade agreement between the two countries in order to reduce tariff barriers.
