Turkish media have reported that the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to visit Iran in the coming days.

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency and Daily Saba said on Tuesday Erdoğan is scheduled to take the Tehran trip on July 19, Fars News Agency reported.

No further details have been released of the visit, but the Turkish president is expected to meet senior Iranian officials and discuss bilateral ties and cooperation as well as regional and international developments.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Tehran is expected to host a trilateral meeting at the level of foreign ministers among the Islamic Republic, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

He made the remark in an address to a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, in Tehran, IRNA reported.

He added the decision was made at his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu during his trip to Ankara a few days ago.

The top Iranian diplomat noted that he and the Azerbaijani foreign minister will decide about the date of the meeting.

On June 27, Amir-Abdollahian visited Ankara, where he met with Erdoğan and Çavuşoğlu.

“We have been against one-sided sanctions on Iran and do not approve those sanctions,” Çavuşoğlu said at a joint press conference with Amir-Abdollahian.

The Iranian foreign minister said that he discussed with the Turkish president the formation of a high-level strategic body between the two countries to oversee the implementation of the long-term cooperation pact.

A few days ago, Amir-Abdollahian and Çavuşoğlu discussed bilateral ties and regional developments in a phone conversation.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed Tehran’s determination to further boost bilateral ties and hope that consultations would be held on the issue.
