Porto striker Mehdi Taremi celebrates a goal during a 3-0 victory over Tondela in the Portuguese Super Cup at the The Estádio Municipal de Aveiro, Averio, Portugal, on July 30, 2022.
Mehdi Taremi picked up right where he left off last season, as the Iranian striker scored in each half to lead Porto to a 3-0 victory over Tondela in the Portuguese Super Cup.
Two months after bagging a brace against Tondela in the Taça de Portugal final to help Porto seal a domestic league and cup double, Taremi only needed half an hour to open his account for the new campaign.
An Evanilson’s header on a corner-kick from the left flank fell into Taremi’s path on the far post, before he tapped in from inside the six-yard box.
Evanilson doubled Dragons’ lead three minutes later with a left-footed effort from close range, and Taremi wrapped up the victory with eight minutes form normal time.
The Iranian international went past a couple of Tondela players before his curling effort from the edge of the box found the bottom-right corner.
This was a 23rd Super Cup crown for the Dragons, who will kick off their Primeira Liga campaign against Maritimo at the Estádio do Dragão on Saturday.
Taremi will again be Porto’s talisman heading into the new season after netting 26 goals, while contributing 17 assists, across all competitions last season.
