The second day of the freestyle contests at the U17 Wrestling World Championships in Rome, Italy, came to a disappointing end for Iran, as the country only managed a silver and a bronze across five weight classes.
Representing Iran in the 80kg contests, Reza Soleimani suffered a 6-3 defeat against Indian Sachin Mor in the final showpiece to settle for a second-spot finish.
Meanwhile, Arshia Haddadi bounced back from an 8-6 loss to American Christian Castillo in the quarterfinals to outmuscle Rassoul Galbouraev of France 11-0 for the joint bronze of the 48kg event – alongside India’s Kumar Lalit.
Vasif Baghirov of Azerbaijan beat Castillo 5-3 to the gold.
Mohammadreza Lotfi left the competition empty-handed after falling to a 4-0 loss to India’s Singh Jaspooran in the third-place bout of the 110kg contests.
