A vessel carrying over 277,000 liters of ‎smuggled fuel from Iran to a regional state was sized in the Persian Gulf waters, said the chief justice of the southern province of Hormuzgan.

Mojtaba Qahremani added the seizure took place at the order of Qeshm’s ‎prosecutor general after the naval forces based on the Persian Gulf island identified the launch with the ‎smuggled fuel on its board, Mehr News Agency reported.

He said the smuggled cargo was being transferred to a Persian Gulf littoral state, noting the smugglers had covered the vessel’s hull with barbed wire to prevent the seizure of the consignment.

Qahremani gave the assurance that all 12 crew members have been arrested and are undergoing legal ‎procedures.  ‎

He said the value of the impounded fuel cargo stands at close to $200,000.
