Iran’s Reza Beiralvand won three gold medals in the men’s competitions of the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games, while his compatriot Elham Hosseini lifted 223kg in total in the women’s contests to claim her country’s first ever weightlifting medal in the females’ division.

On Sunday, Beiralvand lifted 167kg in snatch and 194kg in clean and jerk to receive three gold medals with a total of 361kg in the men's 96kg weight class, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Uzbekistan’s Usarov Sunnatille, who won the bronze medal with 164kg in snatch and 190kg in clean and jerk, won the silver medal with a total of 354kg.

Saudi Arabian Ali Alothman, who lifted 157kg in snatch and 192kg in the clean and jerk, won the bronze medal with a total of 349kg.

Hosseini, on the same day, won the bronze medal in the women’s 81kg weight division by lifting 100kg in snatch, which handed her a gold, 123kg in clean and jerk, for which she received a bronze, and 223kg in total.

Dilara Narin of Turkey seized the gold with 99kg (snatch), 130kg (clean and jerk) and 229kg (total).

Kazakhstan’s Aisha Omarova seized the silver with 98kg in snatch, 128kg in clean and jerk and 226kg in total.

The 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games are being held in Konya, Turkey. The games started on August 9 and will continue until August 18. It is a multinational, multisport event that is played between the athletes from the nations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

With an exception of the 2010 Games, it has taken place every four years since its debut in 2005 at Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The Islamic Solidarity Games are organized and directed by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, but for the first time in history, the event is organized by the Turkish Olympic Committee.
