A photo exhibition will open at Abi Art Gallery in Tehran today and will run until August 25.

Organized by Omid Cultural Center, the exhibition will be curated by Javad Elminia and aims to spread the culture of Ashura, ILNA reported.

Ashura, the 10th day of the first month of the Islamic calendar, Muharram, is the climax of the mourning processions for Imam Hussein (PBUH), a grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his true companions who were martyred in the modern-day Iraqi city of Karbala by the forces of the second Umayyid caliph, Yazid.

The show will feature 30 artworks, measuring 50 by 70 centimeters, by 20 artists.

Elminia has so far curated over 199 group exhibitions and held over 49 festivals.
