Iran among successful states in curbing COVID pandemic: Minister

Iran is among the successful countries in terms of curbing the COVID-19 pandemic, said the health minister, stressing that the ministry accurately and completely supervises, through the Food and Drug Administration, the quality of the imported COVID vaccines.

Making the remarks in an address to an open session of the Iranian Parliament on Tuesday, Bahram Einollahi added in his meeting as the health minister with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader told him that the country’s top priorities are people’s health and fighting the coronavirus, Mehr News Agency reported.

He noted that the administration of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi started its work right amid the fifth wave of the COVID-19 infections in the country.

The minister described vaccination as the most effective measure to control the coronavirus spread, saying the start of vaccination in Iran dates back to 100 years ago.

He added Iran is among the pioneering countries in the field of vaccination.




The Iranian Health Ministry announced on Tuesday, the country’s COVID-19 deaths and infections reached 78 and 5,972 respectively over the past 24 hours.

It put the total death toll and detected cases since the outbreak in the country in late February 2020 at 143,093 and 7,488,493.

The ministry said 7,190,330 patients have so far recovered from the disease in the country.

Of the new cases, it added, 1,113 patients were hospitalized, noting that 1,456 people are in critical condition.

According to the ministry, by Tuesday, 64,844,016 people have received a first dose of the COVID jabs, of which 58,211,885 have been given a second dose and 30,328,575 more than two shots.

It put the total number of the administered COVID-19 vaccines at 153,384,476, of which 7,563 were given to people during Monday to Tuesday.
