Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich was pitted against Spanish giant Barcelona and Serie A runner-up Inter in Group C of the UEFA Champions League – probably the toughest group this season, which also features Czech club Viktoria Plzen.
The draw for the European elite clubs’ competition took place in Istanbul – the host city of next June’s final showdown – on Thursday, where Ajax, Liverpool, Napoli, and Rangers were drawn in Group A.
Iranian international strikers, Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Leverkusen’s Sardar Azmoun, will have the chance to meet in Group B, though Atletico Madrid will still be the favorite to win the group – also featuring Belgian side Club Brugge.
Tottenham will be confident of making progress after being drawn against Eintracht Frankfurt, last season's Europa League winner, Sporting Lisbon and Marseille in Group D.
The same will apply to Chelsea as the London Blues come up against AC Milan, RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb in Group E.
Real Madrid was handed a favorable draw as the defending champion will square off against RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Scottish champion Celtic in Group F.
Group G will see Manchester City striker Erling Haaland face his former club Borussia Dortmund, with Sevilla and Danish champion FC Copenhagen also in the group.
PSG, Juventus, Benfica, and Maccabi Haifa are in Group H.
