The FIFA World Cup Trophy is on display during a ceremony at the Milad Tower in the Iranian capital of Tehran on September 1, 2022.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy was unveiled in a ceremony in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Thursday.

Among those attending the ceremony, held at the Milad Tower, were coach of Iran men’s national team, dubbed domestically Team Melli, Dragan Skocic, President of Iran Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Taj, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani, as well as a number of former national players such as Ahmadreza Abedzadeh (goalkeeper), Hamid Estili (defensive midfielder) and Khodadad Azizi (striker), Tasnim News Agency reported.

The trophy will tour all 32 countries that have qualified for the World Cup.

The tour began in May and will end in November just before the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour is an opportunity for people to take in a piece of football history and share their passion for the sport with each other.

The emotions of seeing the original FIFA World Cup Trophy will stay in football fans’ memories forever.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21-December 18.

Iran qualified for the World Cup 2022 as winner of its group in Asia’s third qualification round.

In the 10-game round-robin, Iran managed to secure its third-straight World Cup ticket. Drawn in Group A, the side faced off against Iraq, South Korea, Lebanon, Syria and the UAE.

Team Melli punched its ticket with a 1-0 home win against Iraq on January 27 with three games to play, becoming the first Asian country to qualify for Qatar.

Qatar 2022 marks Iran’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup in the history and third-straight appearance. The Asian nation has never advanced from the group stage at the tournament, finishing third behind Spain and Portugal in Russia in 2018 and fourth behind Argentina, Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Brazil in 2014.

It is Iran is in Group B alongside England, USA, and Wales in Qatar.
