At least 11 people were killed and 30 others wounded following an explosion in a gas station in Iraq's central province of Babil on Sunday.

Head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society Pirhossein Kolivand said rescuers and ambulances were sent to the site of the incident, according to IRNA.

The official noted that Iranian nationals are among the victims. However, he said that the number of Iranians killed in the incident is unknown because the bodies of the victims were burned beyond recognition.

The incident occurred after a minibus collided with a van at the gas station, which led to the deadly explosion.

The tragic incident came as millions of people from other countries are visiting Iraq to commemorate Arbaeen, the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Imam of Shia Muslims.
