Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday attended a religious ceremony on the occasion of Arbaeen.

Footage aired by national TV and images released by the Leader’s website showed Ayatollah Khamenei addressing the event standing as he spoke in a steady voice to his audience sitting on the floor.

During the Arbaeen ceremony, which marked 40 days after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Ayatollah Khamenei urged participants to act with patience and perseverance.

Rumors by foreign media began to spread about Ayatollah Khamenei’s health condition. But the Leader’s presence in the mourning ceremony scotched the rumors.

Holding a microphone, the Leader told the gathering on Saturday that believers should rely on the Holy Qur’an, which calls for patience when facing hardships.

“Patience means perseverance, it means resisting, not getting tired, not feeling yourself at a dead end,” he said.

“Take the right way and take others along to the right path.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also hailed the march of Arbaeen this year as “the most magnificent of all time”.

Every year millions of Shia Muslims walk from the Iraqi city of Najaf to the nearby holy city of Karbala, where Imam Hussein (PBUH), their third Imam, is buried, to mark Arbaeen.
