Head coach Vahid Shamsaei announced Iran’s 14-man squad for the upcoming AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Kuwait.
The Asian powerhouse returned from Thailand on Saturday after settling for a runner-up finish at the Continental Futsal Championship – courtesy of a 4-3 defeat against Morocco in the final showpiece of the six-team tournament in Bangkok.
Goalkeepers Sina Parkas and Saeed Mo’meni plus Mohammad-Hossein Derakhshani, Hamzeh Kadkhodaei, Mohammadreza Sang-Sefidi, Alireza Rafieipour, Moslem Olad-Qobad, Mehdi Assadshir, Salar Aqapour, Mehdi Karimi, Hossein Tayyebi, Alireza Javan, Saeed Ahmad-Abbasi, and Mohammad-Hossein Bazyar will be representing the country at the 16th edition of the competition, which was called off in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Iran will be chasing a record-extending 13th Asian title – third in succession – when kicking off its campaign against Indonesia in Group B on September 28.
Shamsaei’s men will then take on Chinese Taipei on Sept. 30 before playing Lebanon on the final day of the group phase in Kuwait City.
The top two of the four groups will progress to the last-eight round, with the final showpiece set to be played at Kuwait City’s Saad al-Abdullah Hall on October 8.
