Iran-China eight-month trade tops $11b

Trade between Iran and China grew by 19% to hit $11.16 billion since the turn of the year compared to the same period the previous year, new official figures from China showed Tuesday.

According to China’s customs administration, bilateral trade was worth more than $9.34 billion in the period between January and August, IRNA reported.

The figures indicated China’s imports from Iran rose by 14% in the eight-month period to reach $4.94 billion.

China’s exports to Iran also jumped by 24% in the eight months to August to reach $6.21 billion.

The trade balance was in favor of China with $1.26 billion surplus.

The data also showed that the bulk of Chinese exports to Iran took place in August when $1.14 billion worth of commodities were sold, which is a 36% rise compared to August 2021.
