SCO membership opens a new road for Iran: MP

Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has opened a new road for the country, said the head of the Internal Affairs and Councils Committee of the Iranian Parliament adding, “In this regard, opportunities should be well utilized in domestic and foreign fields.”

Talking to Iran Daily, Mohammad-Saleh Jokar, added the SCO membership has offered very suitable advantages and opportunities, which can be very useful in economic fields.

Referring to the large population of SCO member states, he said the countries have shaped a large market which enjoys very good economic capacities.

“Trade exchanges as well as economic cooperation with other SCO member states can help our country develop in the economic sector,” the lawmaker added.

The 13th administration has had a powerful performance in joining the SCO through adopting a very good diplomacy, he said, adding, “I hope we will use the opportunity well in the international and other fields.

Pointing to the Sacred Defense Week (September 22-28), Jokar noted that officials should be present at the forefront of the economic movement to overcome the country's economic problems.

Today, Iran is successful in the military field and we are known as a military power in the world, as we have mastered new technologies, hailed the MP, regretting that “but in industrial sectors, we haven't witnessed great achievements, due to the lack of management seen during the Sacred Defense (1980-88 Iraqi-imposed war).

During the Sacred Defense years, we formed a new model based on the spirit of endeavor, followed by many countries, including Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, Jokar stated.

“Today, if we work on the basis of the same forms, we will achieve good results, otherwise, we will have to return to Western patterns again, as before the Islamic Revolution (1979), which will result in losing our independence,” the MP concluded.
