Culinary tourism Iran’s competitive advantage

Culinary tourism is Iran’s competitive advantage in the tourism industry, said the chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Iranian Parliament.

Mohammadreza Dashti Ardakani added that branding Iranian halal foods plays a significant role in attracting foreign tourists, according to IRNA.

He made the remarks on Sunday in an event held to mark the sixth day of National Tourism Week.

Noting the importance of the spiritual and intangible heritage for Iran’s culture, Dashti Ardakani recognized the diversity of cuisine among Iranian ethnicities as one such intangible heritage.

“The culture of every region is manifested in the cookery of its people,” he said, adding that there needs to be a sterner effort for registering this intangible heritage on UNESCO’s list.

 The Iranian MP pointed out that holding educational cookery workshops can subsequently help boost Iran’s culinary tourism.

“Tourists are looking for new experiences, and Iranian cuisine is a compelling reason for traveling to Iran.”

Lauding the recent remarks made by Iran’s minister of education in which he said that the discourse of tourism should be brought to the schools, Dashti Ardakani expressed hope that the tourism industry would flourish following closer coordination between Iran’s Parliament, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, and the Ministry of Education.
