Iran's global innovation ranking improved in 2022

A new report by the Global Innovation Index 2022 (GII 2022) shows that Iran's ranking improved seven positions, having the fastest performance in innovation growth and being second innovative country in the Central and South Asia region.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran makes a big leap, reaching the 53rd position; it takes third position among the lower middle-income group," the newly published report said, according to IRNA.

"Among the middle-income group, the Islamic Republic of Iran (53rd) and Indonesia (75th) have notably improved their ranking, not only this year but also over the past decade, and join Türkiye, Vietnam and the Philippines (59th) in having an increasingly important potential for transforming the global innovation landscape," it noted.

The GII 2022 report also mentioned: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is second in the region once again, climbing to 53rd place, improving notably from the 104th place it held back in 2012 and establishing itself as a middle-income economy with the potential to transform the global innovation landscape."

Iran is expected to improve its ranking in this respect because of efforts being made by the knowledge-based companies, startups, elite as well as government apparatus and industries, who try to pave the way for development based on innovation and state-of-the-art know-how.

According to the GII 2022, Switzerland, the United States, Sweden, Britain and the Netherlands are the most innovative economies in the world, and China is on the verge of entering top 10 innovative nations club.

Other emerging economies such as India and Türkiye, which have been ranked for the first time among top 40 innovative states, have shown powerful performance in this regard.
