IRGC commander: Iran will firmly confront separatist, terrorist groups in northwestern border areas

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it is strengthening its troops stationed in the northwestern border areas to prevent terrorist teams from entering the country.

IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said Special Forces and armored units are being deployed to those border areas to bolster the ground troops that are present there.
He added that the measure is aimed at preventing anti-Tehran terrorist and separatist groups, which are based in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, from infiltrating Iran and smuggling weapons into the country.
The IRGC commander said Iran will firmly confront such terror and separatist groups that seek to create insecurity in the country and its border regions.
Since September 24, the IRGC has frequently launched air raids against the positions of the terrorists, who are holed up in Iraqi Kurdistan seeking to ignite riots and unrest in Iran’s western border cities.
Iran has, on countless occasions, warned Iraqi Kurdistan’s local authorities that it will not tolerate the presence and activity of terrorist groups along its northwestern borders, saying the country will give a decisive response should those areas become a hub of anti-Islamic Republic terrorists.
