Government allocates $3.12m for equipping libraries

The government has allocated $3.12 million and $312,500 to equip the libraries and support provincial publishers respectively since March 2014.

Deputy Culture Minister Abbas Salehi announced this at the inaugural ceremony of the 12th Bandar Abbas (Hormuzgan province) Book Fair. He added cultural efforts can help improve the presentation of religious issues to the people, Mehr News Agency reported.

Salehi noted the present government pays due attention to cultural justice, adding one of the main concerns in the cultural sector pertain to national facilities, particularly those related to the decentralization of facilities.

The Culture Ministry intends to include other provinces in the arts and culture sector's decision making process and the implementation of cultural plans, Salehi added.

He said in the year which started on March 21, 2014, the quality and number of provincial book expos have improved and increased significantly.

The deputy culture minister noted the ministry is required to concentrate its efforts on promoting book reading culture.

"A total of 20 major book exhibitions have been held in the provincial capitals since March 21, 2014. Five more expos are due to held in five provincial capitals until March 21, 2015."

He said in the current year's book fairs, greater attention was paid to holding lateral programs.

"Iranian provinces are the country's important cultural assets and potentials which should not be overlooked."

Bandar Abbas Book Fair, which opened on January 3, will continue until January 9.
