The 205-kilometer Qazvin-Rasht (northern Iran) railway line will become operational in a ceremony to be attended by President Hassan Rouhani prior to March 21, said the managing director of Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) on Monday.
Once completed, Qazvin-Rasht-Anzali railroad — connecting central Iran to the north of the country — will have the capacity to transit 10 million tons of goods and transport four million passengers per annum.
Rasht-Astara railway opens the way for expanding trade relations in the region, said Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan during a joint meeting of representatives of the state-run and private sectors of Gilan Province in northern Iran.
Rasht, the capital of the northern province of Gilan, is one of the most important cities located in a vast plain about 30 km from the Caspian Sea and embracing the slopes of Alborz Mountain Range. The climate of Rasht is humid and changeable.
