Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami referred to sustainable development as Iran’s strategy in the region, saying Iran is ready to connect Khaf-Herat railway to Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan.
Khaf-Herat joint railway project is a great achievement for Afghanistan’s people, said the Afghan minister of commerce and industry, adding by connecting this railway line to Chabahar-Zahedan railroad, southeastern Iran, another window will open for development of trade between Tehran and Kabul.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday hailed inauguration of Khaf-Herat railway in an online ceremony with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani saying it is benefiting for both the Iranian and Afghan people.
Iran will construct 3,956 kilometers of roads and railways, worth about $5.7 billion, by the end of the next Iranian year (March 20, 2022), said Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Kheirollah Khademi.
The executive operation of the Hamedan-Sanandaj railway, with a length of 150 km in western Iran started on Monday, said the minister of roads and urban development, adding that is expected to be operational by next summer.
Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami announced on Sunday that by opening the Khaf-Herat railway, the railway networks of the two countries will be connected next (Iranian) month (October 22-November 20).
The Zahedan-Chabahar railway, in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, will become operational in the next Iranian year (starting March 21, 2021), said the head of Parliament’s Construction Committee.
