Dedicated care home workers in UK are sleeping in a tent in the garden to protect residents
Dedicated workers are sleeping in tents in the garden of a care home to protect their residents from catching coronavirus.

A dozen hardworking staff are spending the nights for the next four weeks outside to stay completely isolated from society, according to metro.co.uk.

They hope it will stop their residents — many of whom are elderly and vulnerable — from getting Covid-19.

Care homes are on the frontline of the pandemic, with thousands of residents across Britain dying from it.

The staff at Pilgrim Wood residential home, near Guildford in Surrey, are prepared to do whatever it takes to prevent more deaths.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by how supportive and positive the staff have been,” owner Keshel Lakhani said.

“It’s a massive personal sacrifice they are all making for this period. Some are spending weeks away from their families, we are so grateful to them.”

Staff will sleep on camp beds and air mattresses in the tents, and can eat, brush their teeth and shower in the home.

And residents’ families have been overwhelmed by the kind gesture.

“The reaction from the relatives of our residents has been wonderful,” Keshel said.
