According to statistics, Iranian steelmakers churned out 28.37 million tons of steel ingots during the previous Iranian year, IRNA reported.
It is also planned for steel complexes of the country to produce 23 million tons of steel products in the year to March 20, 2022.
Figures released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) showed that Iran’s steel exports during the previous year declined 13.1 percent compared to the figure in its preceding year.
Based on the data, the country exported nine million tons of steel in the previous Iranian year while the exports in the Iranian year to March 19, 2020 stood at 10.3 million tons.
According to ISPA, over 2.8 million tons of steel products were also exported in the year to March 20, registering an 18 percent decline year on year.
The exports of steel products, intermediate steel and sponge iron all declined last Iranian year, and despite significant output growth and the demand decline in domestic construction sector, the exports of the products did not increase due to the pandemic.
According to recent figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA), Iranian steelmakers cast 7.5 million tons of crude steel during the first three months of 2021, marking a 10.7 percent rise compared to the corresponding figure in 2020, which was 6.75 million tons.
Iran cast 2.6 million tons of crude steel in March, showing a 10.7 percent increase compared to the figure for the same month of 2020, which was 2.23 million tons.
Iran produced over 29 million tons of crude steel in 2020, according to figures released by WSA in January.
According to the Islamic Republic’s Vision Plan, the country’s total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with export figures expected to reach 10-15 million tons.
