The head of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said on Thursday that the 26th consignment of COVID-19 vaccines purchased by IRCS, containing six million doses, has entered the country.

According to Karim Hemmati, with the arrival of the latest shipment, the Society has fulfilled the promise for importing 18 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in one week.

He added the organization has imported 70,390,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine since May, IRNA reported.

Hemmati further noted that the cargo was delivered to the officials of Iran’s Health Ministry at Imam Khomeini International Airport.

According to Iran's Health Ministry, so far 46,809,100 Iranians have received the first and 21,548,207 others received the second dose of the coronavirus vaccines, increasing the total number of administrated vaccines to 63,357,301 doses across the country.

The numbers of fatalities and hospitalizations have decreased in recent weeks due to vaccinations and restrictions imposed by the government across the country.

The public vaccination program against the coronavirus has gained momentum in recent weeks with a hike in the imports of vaccine, opening of new round-the-clock vaccination centers, and inoculation of people above the age of 12.
