Iran, Kazakhstan call for enhanced defense cooperation
Iran and Kazakhstan have underscored the significance of improved defense ties to counter the threat of terrorism and extremism.

This was announced during a meeting of Iran's Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari with Kazakh Deputy Defense Minister Talgat Mukhtarov in Astana on ways to improve defense cooperation, Press TV reported.

Mukhtarov said the two countries needed to enhance their all-out cooperation to counter security threats, particularly terrorism and extremism, and help settle regional conflicts.

Caspian Sea coastal states’ cooperation

In a meeting with Kazakh Navy Commander Rear Admiral Zhandarbek Zhanzakov on Monday, Rear Admiral Sayyari said cooperation among the Caspian Sea littoral states would play an important role in enhancing regional security and preventing foreign interference.

Zhanzakov, for his part, said his country is keen on improving defense ties with Iran.

He added that Iran and Kazakhstan can cooperate in the fields of hydrography, tackling air pollution and relief and rescue operation.

Rear Admiral Sayyari arrived in the Kazakh capital city of Astana Sunday at Zhanzakov’s invitation. The Iranian commander is also scheduled to meet Kazakh Defense Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in the production of essential military hardware and defense systems.

The country has repeatedly announced that its military might does not pose any threat to other countries as Iran's defense doctrine is solely based on deterrence.
