Prof.: 40 Indian universities offer Persian language courses
Persian language is taught in 40 universities in India, said a professor of Persian language and literature at the Islamic National University of New Delhi.

Speaking in a meeting of Persian language professors, Mehdi Baqerkhan further pointed out, "Indians need Persian language since a part of our historical identity is related to this language."

Turning to the status of Persian language in India, he said that Persian language is also taught in some Indian high schools and 'Bustan' (The Orchard) and 'Golestan' (The Rose Garden) by the renowned Persian poet Abu-Muhammad Muslih ed-Din bin Abdallah Shirazi , known as Sa'di, are also on the curriculum of all centers of Islamic teachings in the country, ISNA reported.

"Persian language belongs to the entire Indian subcontinent and has been the official language of India for more than 800 years," he added.

He also called for promoting the capacity of social networks in cyberspace in order to develop ties between Persian-speakers in other countries.
