Iran, Turkey exchanged goods by 6,300 freight cars since mid-March: IRICA
A total of 6,300 railroad cars transported goods between Iran and Turkey since the beginning of the current Iranian year (which started on March 20).

Announcing this on Sunday, the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi, added that 3,072 train cars transported Iranian products to Turkey, while 3,228 railway trucks carried Turkish goods to its eastern neighbor, Mehr News Agency reported.

Turkey closed Bazargan border (in northwestern Iran) to Iranian trucks on February 21, he said, noting, “In this period, other countries’ trucks transported some 6,692 tons of commodities to Turkey.”

The IRICA spokesman added Razi customs in northwestern Iran is the only rail route for goods transactions between the two neighbors, expressing hope that both countries would witness the reopening of common borders within the next few days, particularly in view of the emphasis placed on the issue by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a phone conversation on May 24.

The closure of common borders between Iran and Turkey came after the outbreak of the coronavirus in both countries.
