Iranian director Mehrdad Oskouei receives First Grade Certificate of Art

Iran’s prominent filmmaker Mehrdad Oskouei was awarded the First Grade Certificate of Art from the country’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in filmmaking.

According to ISNA, the Assessment Council of Artists, Writers, and Poets of Iran approved the award.

The Iranian director was granted the accolade by an official attached to the Ministry of Culture, Mohammad Tabatabaee, with the certificate being equal to a Ph.D. based on the academic system.

This certificate was given to the director in the presence of Bardia Sadr-Nouri, who is the representative of the Plan and Budget Organization.

Oskouei is an Iranian filmmaker, particularly in the documentary genre, and a photographer whose works received kudos in national and international festivals and has won numerous awards.

‘Sunless Shadows,’ which made its world premiere as the opening film at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, won the festival’s Best Director prize.

The Iranian documentary also opened the 11th Middle East Now Festival in Italy and grabbed the Silver Horn award for Best Director and the Student Jury award at the 60th Krakow Film Festival in Poland.

Nominated for the Open City Award at the 2020 Open City Documentary Festival in the UK, the film won the main prize of the festival’s International Competition section at the 8th CinéDOC-Tbilisi Documentary Film Festival in Georgia.

‘Sunless Shadows’ won the Best Director Award at the 32nd IDFA, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2019.

Oskouei also won the Grand Prix Nanook at the 39th Jean Rouch International Film Festival, Paris, France for the second time.
