Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will address people in a televised speech on the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan (May 7), known as the International Quds Day.

According to Nosratollah Lotfi, vice president of Iran’s Islamic Propagation Coordination Council, the Leader's speech will be delivered on Friday morning and covered by domestic and foreign news networks as well as social media news outlets, reported on Monday.

Lotfi added that no public demonstration will be held in Iran this year to mark the occasion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day back in 1979, following the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Iranians, along with people across the world, hold rallies every year to mark the occasion and reiterate their call for the liberation of Palestine from the Israeli regime's occupation and to denounce Israel’s atrocities.

However, this would be the second consecutive year that the outbreak of the coronavirus has created hurdles for holding national gatherings to demonstrate public support for the cause of Palestine.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, including East Al-Quds, Press TV wrote.

It has also been erecting illegal settlements across the land in a move seen as de facto annexation of the territory.
