Iran’s monthly crude steel exports up 135%
Iran’s exports of steel ingots increased 135 percent during March 21-April 21 compared to the same period last year.

According to figures by the Iranian Industry, Mine, and Trade Ministry, 566,000 tons of steel ingots were exported during the month to April 21, IRNA reported.

Iran’s exports of steel during the last Iranian year (ending on March 20) declined 13.1 percent compared to the figure for the preceding year, according to official statistics.

Based on the data, over 2.8 million tons of steel products were exported in the previous Iranian year, registering an 18% decline year-on-year.

According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA) on May 21, Iranian steelmakers produced 10 million tons of crude steel during the first four months of 2021, marking a 9.6 percent rise compared to the corresponding figure for 2020, which was 9.1 million tons.

Iranian smelters cast 2.5 million tons of crude steel in April, showing a 6.4% increase compared to the figure for the same month of 2020, which was 2.3 million tons.

Iran produced over 29 million tons of crude steel in 2020, according to figures released by WSA in January.

According to the Islamic Republic’s Vision Plan, the country’s total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with exports expected to reach 10-15 million tons.

The World Steel Association (WSA) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world’s steel producers, including over 150 steel producers, with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.
