Iranian film ‘Bone Marrow,’ directed by Hamidreza Qorbani, will have its international premiere at the 40 Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) in British Columbia, slated for October 1 to 11.

Parinaz Izadyar, Babak Hamidian, Navid Pourfaraj, Behrooz Shoaibi and Javad Ezati star in the film.

Qorbani’s film is about Bahar who has separated from her husband and marries again to live a new life. She has a son from her former husband who has leukemia and needs treatment. Her ex-husband is a death row inmate. She has to find a way to win the child custody case.

Qorbani has previously directed the drama ‘A House on 41st Street’.

Other international premieres of the festival include ‘A Chat’ (China), ‘Ayukawa: The Weight of Life’ (New Zealand/the UK/Japan), ‘The Endless Moment: The Painter Rolf Kulhmann’ (Germany/Greece), ‘Father Pablo’ (Mexico), ‘Godavari’ (India), ‘The In-Laws’ (Poland), ‘The King of North Sudan’ (the US/China/Egypt/Thailand), and ‘Records’ (Canada).

Although the Canadian event has traditionally commenced in late September with a two-week run, the 2021 hybrid edition will be somewhat truncated, running from October 1 to 11 with a program comprised of over 110 feature films, 77 shorts, and 20 events.

Both in terms of admissions and the number of films screened, VIFF is among the five largest film festivals in North America. Screening films from more than 70 countries on nine screens, VIFF's program includes the pick of the world’s top film fests and many undiscovered gems.
