Leader to receive participants of 35th Islamic Unity Conference

Participants of the 35th International Islamic Unity Conference will meet Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on October 24 marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Heads of the three branches of government and a number of other senior Iranian officials are also to attend the meeting which is to be held in the Imam Khomeini Mosque downtown Tehran on Sunday, observing health protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Leader’s official website. 

The 35th International Islamic Unity Conference kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday morning with a speech by President Ebrahim Raeisi.

The conference marks the Islamic Unity Week which was originally initiated by the Founder of the Islamic Republic the late Imam Khomeini in 1990.

The week begins on the Prophet of Islam’s birthday as narrated in the Sunni tradition and ends on the same occasion as narrated by Shias.

The two dates are the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, the first week of the third lunar month of the Islamic calendar, according to Sunnis, and the 17th of Rabi al Awwal, according to Shia.

The ongoing 35th International Islamic Unity Conference, underway in Tehran from October 19 to 24, is participated by a large number of elites, politicians, scholars and reformers from Islamic and non-Islamic countries.

Issues such as war and peace, Islamic brotherhood and the fight against terrorism and extremism, Islamic solidarity, avoiding conflicts in the Muslim world, as well as the issue of Palestine, and the Islamic resistance are among major topics discussed in the international event, IRNA wrote.

514 speeches have been delivered at the conference and streamed online on the official website of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

The organizers have gathered together thinkers from all geographical regions of the world, including South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.

The speeches delivered at the conference will be uploaded on the Internet in Farsi, Arabic, and English languages.
