Raeisi stresses compliance with health protocols amid rising COVID casualties

Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi warned against any laxity in observing the health protocols in view of the rise in the number of daily COVID-19 deaths and infections in the country.

Making the remarks in an address to a Saturday meeting of the National Task Force for Fighting the Coronavirus, Raeisi also urged the imposition of new restrictions to curb the spread of the new variants of the virus in the country, wrote.

He added that all people must wear face masks in public places and observe social distancing, highlighting the necessity of receiving a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The president also called on the Health Ministry to prioritize public vaccinations.

The Health Ministry said on Saturday daily COVID-19 cases and deaths reached 26 and 6,921 in the past 24 hours.

It added the total death toll and infections since the outbreak in late February 2020 stand at 141,650 and 7,319,322 respectively.

The ministry said 7,072,359 patients have so far recovered from the disease.

It added during Friday-Saturday, 726 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, saying 834 people are currently in critical condition.

By Saturday, 64,738,288 people in Iran had received their first dose of the COVID vaccine, of which 58,102,579 had also been given a second dose, said the ministry. It put the number of the administered third doses at 28,919,075.

So far, according to the ministry, a total of 151,759,942 doses of COVID jabs have been administered in the country.
