Minister: SCCR to introduce enactment about morality police methods

The Iranian minister of culture said the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution (SCCR) plans to introduce an enactment about the methods and techniques used by the country’s morality police.

Commenting on whether the methods and techniques used by Iran’s morality police need to be modified, Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili told ISNA that the issue can be discussed.

He stressed that although everybody must obey the law, the methods and techniques of implementing them can be discussed, criticized and amended.

The minister said over the past few months, the SCCR has entered this field and passed good enactments, following the introduction of which new methods and techniques will be used in this area.

He added any Iranian citizen can criticize laws and regulations and voice its objection to them, noting that although laws must be enforced, it is possible to replace them.

Esmaeili said the new methods and techniques are the outcomes of months of review and assessment by the SCCR, noting that they are almost in the stage of being presented to police forces.

He emphasized that devising the new methods are, however, not related to the recent death of a 22-year-old woman, identified as Mahsa Amini, who collapsed at a police station last Tuesday and died three days later after she was transferred to a hospital in Tehran, saying the issue had been dealt with in June and July.

He added police have its own laws and regulations and enforce them, giving the assurance that the SCCR will employ new methods to ensure maximum public satisfaction.
